Meet The Team

Title: Chief Medical Officer

Mark Emerton is an orthopaedic surgeon in Leeds. As clinical director he established the elective orthopaedic unit in Leeds and subsequently held national roles at the NHS Institute in both quality improvement and patient safety. He was the national clinical lead for the introduction of the WHO Safer Surgery checklist as part of the Patient Safety First campaign and was a senior clinical advisor at the NPSA. Returning to the clinical lead role in Leeds until 2018 he focussed on improving access for patients and the quality and value of elective services before joining HBSUK as Clinical Director.

Mark Fountain

Title: Founder and CEO

The HBSUK Founder and new ideas guru, Mark drives business excellence in the company. Mark held various CEO, COO and Hospital Director roles in domestic and International Private Healthcare businesses before founding Healthcare Business Solutions (UK) in 2012

Charles Byrne

Title: Managing Director

A natural relationship builder, Charles leads HBSUK Sales. With a big business background in Manufacturing and MBA qualified, Charles has a wealth and depth of skills he brings to the HBS Leadership team. Charles is also sadly a Liverpool supporter.

Lucy Cassidy

Title: Product and Service Director - MSK

Lucy, a Clinical Specialist and the architect of the well-known Brighton and Sussex Virtual Fracture Clinics, is the HBSUK MSK transformational lead. Lucy has been pivotal in developing the HBS Digital Triage Platform ‘Virtual Lucy™'. Lucy is one of the HBS healthcare ‘disrupters’ and an International speaker.

Michael Monk

Title: Chief Financial Officer

Michael is a Chartered Accountant and joined as our CFO in December 2020. Having trained with accounting firm BDO, Michael has held several senior finance roles across a broad range of sectors.

Michael sits on the HBS UK board and has oversight for Finance, HR, MI and Quality Assurance.

Alex Nancekievill

Chris Birch

Title: Business Development Manager

Chris joined HBSUK in September 2021 to develop Virtual Lucy within the NHS. With an extensive background in the clinical research and pharmaceutical industry globally; Chris brings a great deal of healthcare experience to HBSUK. Chris is a keen (if now slow) hockey player, umpire and coach and passionate advocate (and sometimes chef) of his local free meals service.

Matthew Hendley

Title: IT Technician

Matthew joined HBSUK in October 2018, since joining he has held multiple positions and has extensive experience in many roles. Matthew works in the technology department and manages the company’s IT systems & cyber security, along with supporting the Virtual Lucy platform.

Ieuan Saint

Marina Hawkley

Title: Operations Manager

With a Masters in Marketing, Marina has held numerous Client Services and Operations roles. As well as her Operations and Client Management role in HBSUK, Marina continues to also work as International Business Development Director for an Ammunition company. Marina is linguistically gifted, speaking several East European languages, including Russian and Bulgarian.

Adam Douglas

Title: QA Analyst

A spreadsheet master - Adam's gifted skills with spreadsheets are crucial when dealing with the financial and business analytics within HBSUK. Currently in the process of studying for his accountancy qualification, Adam's knowledge in his special interest of business finance and analytics is forever growing.

Lucy Pittaway

Title: Operations Director

Lucy joined HBSUK in August 2021 as Operations Director. Having held various Operational Management positions across Acute NHS Trusts, she has experience managing elective, non-elective and emergency services. Lucy has a passion for transformation and uses this to drive operational excellence across the business.
