About: Mark Emerton is an orthopaedic surgeon in Leeds. As clinical director he established the elective orthopaedic unit in Leeds and subsequently held national roles at the NHS Institute in both quality improvement and patient safety. He was the national clinical lead for the introduction of the WHO Safer Surgery checklist as part of the Patient Safety First campaign and was a senior clinical advisor at the NPSA. Returning to the clinical lead role in Leeds until 2018 he focussed on improving access for patients and the quality and value of elective services before joining HBSUK as Clinical Director.
