HBSUK has appointed Dr Gary Bolger as a part of their growing team of non-Executive Directors

AXA PPP’s former Chief Medical Officer, Gary Bolger, has considerable experience in both the private and public sector of healthcare. He worked in the NHS for 17 years starting in a variety of hospital posts and a year in general practice before moving into Public Health Medicine. He was a consultant in public health for over eight years in Berkshire working in commissioning for the health authority and with General Practitioners.

Until his retirement two years ago, Dr Bolger spent 19 years as AXA PPP’s Head of Medical Policy and for over eight of these years as its Chief Medical Officer.

At AXA PPP he supported both the domestic and international businesses setting the claims and was the main source of medical advice, leading a team of 34 people including six doctors covering medical policy, medical underwriting, provider audit and investigations, health care pathways and provider selection. He helped develop new products and initiated the guiding of customers to and selection of providers. His knowledge of UK independent sector healthcare and practice is beyond repute.

Dr Bolger joins former CEO of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Professor Stephen Smith on the medical advisory board of HBSUK.

Dr Bolger will be helping the HBSUK Board and Medical Leadership Teams to create and adapt their clinical strategies to meet the changing needs of NHS and private patients across the UK and internationally.

HBSUK provide healthcare-based solutions to the NHS and other corporations. The company offers NHS Insourcing and Virtual Lucy, an innovative digital triage service and can restructure pathways end-to-end across both primary and secondary care. Their services are led by experienced consultants and run across a range of clinical specialities, such as dermatology and MSK. They also work in partnership with AXA Health to provide MSK services using digital triage.

Mark Fountain, Founder and CEO of HBSUK said:

“We are delighted to have Gary on board. We look forward to sharing in Gary’s sage and informed guidance in supporting us to transform outpatient services and developing our Virtual Lucy platform to be the method of choice for patients, clinicians and clients entering both NHS and private environments.

Gary joins Professor Stephen Smith in our expanding team of Non-Executive Directors and will support us in ‘Making Healthcare Better’ in our domestic and international ambitions”.

Mr Mark Emerton, HBSUK Chief Medical Officer added:

“Having Gary and Steve alongside our already strong Medical Advisory Board is a great asset and will help us to continue to innovate and deliver new pathways in the NHS and private healthcare in a safe and robust manner”.
