Professional profile
Mr Niel Kang is a specialist upper limb surgeon with expertise in shoulder, elbow, and complex upper limb trauma surgery, and non-surgical treatments for upper limb soft tissue conditions (tendinopathies). Keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery and joint replacement form a core component of his service.
Having completed a prestigious London orthopaedic training scheme and further specialist training in Cambridge, Niel Kang is currently a full time Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In the pursuit of excellence and to equip himself with the most up to date knowledge and skills, Niel Kang has enhanced his skills by learning from world class upper limb experts in New York at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Mount Sinai Hospital, and centres of excellence in Mumbai, India. He has been the recipient of national awards during the course of his training.
Niel Kang has been involved in educational instruction throughout his professional career, from bedside teaching to lecturing at international meetings. In addition to being a faculty member for the Royal College of Surgeons of England viva course, he also teaches orthopaedic surgeons in training and medical students.
With the aims of continually improving orthopaedic practice and patient outcomes and experience, Niel Kang is collaborating in studies with other experts from orthopaedic centres of excellence. He has numerous peer reviewed publications and presentations on a wide range of orthobiologic, joint replacement, and trauma topics. Niel Kang is also an expert reviewer for the world renowned Bone and Joint Journal.
Research interests
Niel Kang has numerous peer reviewed publications and national presentations.
His current research focuses on the non-surgical treatment of shoulder and elbow soft tissue degenerative diseases. This includes implementing and collaborating in trials on using patient’s own blood products (Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)) to treat tendinopathies of the upper limb.
